Running for Office

In general, forms for city offices may be obtained at the Butler County election office. (Forms are not available online because they must be signed and filed at the Butler County election office (at 205 W. Central Avenue, El Dorado, KS 67042) by noon on June 1.  However, terms of current City Council members do not expire until 2025 and 2027, so no forms are currently available.

City elections are non-partisan.  In accordance with K.S.A. 25-205 and K.S.A. 25-2110, and amendments thereto, any person may become a candidate for city office by filing a nomination petition or a declaration of candidacy, accompanied by a fee of $20. The nomination petition must be signed by fifty (50) of the qualified electors of the City of Augusta, Kansas or by a number of such qualified electors of the City equal to not less than one percent (1%) of the ballots cast and counted at the last general city election, whichever is less.
