Our electric plant has the capability to generate power and does several weeks out of the year. The majority of the time, the City purchases wholesale power from the Kansas Power Pool (KPP). The City of Augusta is one of the founding members of the KPP. Through our membership, Augusta customers benefit from lower costs as a result of purchasing wholesale power instead of generating at retail prices.
The KPP is part of the larger service area covered by a 14-state region called the Southwest Power Administration (SWPA), spanning from Louisianna to Montana.
