City of Augusta Names Director of Public Safety
Augusta, Kansas, March 2018 – The City of Augusta is pleased to announce that Robert “Bob” Sage has been selected as the Director of Public Safety with a rank of Chief, replacing Tyler Brewer who retired in October 2017.
Sage is a public safety professional with more than 30 years experience in police and fire operations and administration. Born and raised in Augusta, he returned in 2016 after serving 14 years as the Chief of Police in Rose Hill.
Sage is past president of the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police, a former commissioner with the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training, and has served on many non-profit boards that benefit citizens of Butler County. He is a graduate of the 235th Session of the FBI National Academy, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Central Christian College, and an Associate’s Degree in Administration of Justice from Butler Community College.
After accepting the appointment, Sage provided the following statement:
It is difficult to express how honored and excited I am on being selected as the next Director of Public Safety. When I think back on my childhood growing up in Augusta there are nothing but good memories and great times in a community that I remember as always coming together and supporting one another, a community that I always felt safe in. That has not changed over the years. The men and women of the Augusta Department of Public Safety are an outstanding group of dedicated professionals who are working, often at great personal risk to themselves, 24/7 so that all of us can have those same opportunities, memories, and ability to live in safety. I look forward to working in partnership with the community and the department to not just maintain what we have but find ways to make improvements, making this great community and department even greater.
Sage will be ceremonially sworn in at the City Council meeting April 2, 2018. Please help us welcome Bob to his new role as Public Safety Director for the City of Augusta.
